Contractual instruments play a key role in safeguarding the interests of the UN, and must be considered with high regard. They provide the essential description of what is to be done, how to do it, how it is to be measured and the requirements to be met as a consequence of particular circumstances arising or of unforeseen consequences of carrying out the contract.
